Highland Archaeology Festival Events 2018 

During the Highland Archaeology Festival the museum is running a few events and exhibition. On Saturday 6th October Countryside Ranger Marcia will be here to tale you through making some traditional Victorian natural remedies from 12-2pm.  In the afternoon she will join the museum curator where they will both lead a walk down the old railway line to talk about it’s history and the natural environment. And from the 12th October there will be an exhibition about the Nicolson Mackenzie Memorial Hospital.  You can find out about the history of the building and hospital through architect’s drawings, photographs, documents and personal accounts.

Summer Activities 2018

Our Summer programme is ready to go! Starting on the 20th July we have a mix of activities such crafts, stories, nature and exploration, all with an outdoor theme. For more information and details on how to book click here

Textile Crafts Day (Past Event)

To link with the we are having a textiles crafts day here at the station.  Needlefelting 11am – 12.30pm, Tunisian Crochet 2-4pm and drop in upcycled crafts on the platform. There will also be a special display from Groam House Museum’s George Bain collection and free entry to the Highland Museum of Childhood.

The Highland Archaeology Festival launched this week, bigger and better than ever! There are loads of events, talks, and workshops happening over the fortnight including the new Museum Object Trail. Other events happening at the museum are an Ancient crafts workshop for adults to weave your own mobile cover, a tartan weaving workshop for children, a railway heritage walk led by Susan Kruse from ARCH and an ancient storytelling workshop with Lizzie McDougall.

Our programme of activities for children and families will start on Tuesday 26th July with a drama and stories workshop with Lizzie McDougall.  Inspired by stories of the railway station children can get a chance to devise and perform a drama including putting together costumes and making small props.

On Thursday 28th July is Mish Mash Arts & Crafts.  We have lots of craft materials and bits & bobs that we have gathered over the years so we’d like to use them up!

Tuesday 2nd August is Geocaching and a Treasure Hunt.  We’d like to set up a Geocache at the museum so come and help us.  We’ll also let you create a treasure hunt around our grounds.

And finally on Thursday 4th August is Glo in the Dark crafts.  Make lots of different things including jewellery, glo jars, monsters that glow in the dark!
